As you wind your way through the small, narrow streets of ‘Old City’ Chania, with its quaint and interesting little gift shops, tavernas and coffee shops, you cannot help but arrive directly at the promenade by the old harbour, which is rich in history dating back to the Turkish occupancy and the German activity during the 2^nd world war.

This 4 storey building, which was proclaimed in 1983 by the Ministry of Culture in Greece as one of the most sought-after properties to be restored and conserved, was once the headquarters of the Germans during the 2^nd World War, but not after it was first exploited by a Turkish Lord to house his harem of concubines & wives during the Turkish take-over.

The building was bought by a wealthy entrepreneur in the Autumn of 1932 and restored to be used as one of the first hotels in the city, which functioned until late 1970.

Although this splendid building needs some restoration and refurbishing, it is habitable, with functioning plumbing & electricity, as well as an operating, antique door-bell system.

Thick stone walls and traditional stone arches are important features which have been retained during restoration. The impressive wooden staircase with its wooden balustrade is a familiar characteristic of the 17^th & 18^th century style and architecture.

Most of the rooms are wide and spacious, with the smaller rooms allowing for private administrative use, or which can be connected during refurbishing to create even larger living space.

There is a roof terrace with a sea and rooftop view, accessed from 2 upstairs doors, one from a bedroom and the other from the landing.

Absolutely spectacular sea views are enjoyed from the balconies and windows, hemming in the ancient Turkish Mosque, the restored Light House (Faros), which is a symbol of the city of Chania, the esplanade with its innumerable array of coffee shops, tavernas and gift shops, patisseries and music bars. On the opposite side, one looks down onto the narrow street and additional striking old & restored buildings which are reminiscent of days gone by.

The marina, with its colourful assortment of boats, yachts, ferries, dinghies and excursion vessels, is only a short stroll away down the East-end side of the esplanade.
