Tsoutsouras or Tsoutsouros (from the Venetian Zuzzuro ) is located 63 km south of the city of Heraklion at the exit of the imposing gorges of Mindris and Tsitsiras. It is built on the site where the ancient city of Inatos was built, which was the port of Priansos. In fact, the two united settlements of Pera Tsoutsouros and Tsoutsouros are a single building complex that serves the southern port for the residents of Arkalochori, as most of them originate from there.
The area is well organized and developed in terms of tourism, but it is still a destination for very peaceful family holidays. During summer in Tsoutsouras, young and old people can attend or take part in tournaments of beach soccer and beach volley, organized in recent years, while beach parties are often organized, so all the people on holiday there can have a lot of fun.
In front of the village there is the small port of the area. East and west of the port are two large leeward bays with a total length of 2 km, with coarse sand and clear sea. The beach is organized with umbrellas, but also several tamarisk trees. It is an ideal place to use as a base for excursions to the surrounding beaches. For isolation, one can walk to the east, to the Limniara area, with its rocks and small ponds. In Limniara there is a sea cave, known to the locals as Pourgonero.
Swimming in Tsoutsouros has been considered medicinal and therapeutic since ancient times. According to locals, several doctors recommend swimming in Tsoutsouros for those with musculoskeletal and orthopaedic problems.
