Drakona is a quiet, traditional village in the province of Kissamos. It is located 27 km west of Chania and at an altitude of 70 m. The villagers are mainly engaged in agriculture, and their products are oil, grapes, wine, and citrus fruits. The area has an excellent microclimate as the temperature is high all year round (15-30 degrees). Humidity is low due to the area’s low altitude and, combined with the absolute tranquillity of the natural environment, makes this village an excellent place to live all year round. Also, 3 km from the village of Drakona is the junction of BOAK (the national highway), offering the possibility of immediate and fast access to the entire Chania prefecture, the airport, the port, and all of Crete. The next village from Drakona (1,000 meters) is Spilia, which has a tavern, pharmacy, and supermarket. At a distance of 8 km, there is a gorge of exceptional natural beauty, the Deliana Gorge. A walk in the gorge is recommended even for small children, as it passes through a dirt road and lasts just one hour. The gorge is characterized by dense vegetation with plane trees and chestnut trees. The best season to visit it is spring when the vegetation is at its peak, and the river still flows.
