Kalydonia is a village and community in the Kissamos district, located 27 km west of Chania and is built at an altitude of approximately 120 m. The 307 residents of the community are mainly engaged in agriculture, and their most important products are olive oil, grapes, wine and vegetables.
The communities of Kalydonia also include the settlements of Veni, Kamara, Koumouli and Melissourgio.
The village of Kalydonia did not always have this name. In the past it was called Agathes, due to the many thorns that existed in the area. On May 5, 1958, the village was renamed Kalydonia.
According to the residents, the village has been inhabited since the Minoan era. This conclusion is supported by the tombs that have been found in various areas of the village.
