Roustika is located twenty kilometres southwest of Rethymno at an altitude of 290 m at the foot of the hill Ambelos. It is a small, picturesque, traditional village with great architecture and trances of its Venetian past in central Rethymno.
The name Roustika comes from the Arabic word “Roustak” which means “village”. Others claim that it derives from Latin because Rustica means agricultural. In the village, there are famous monasteries and churches and many other sights to enjoy and discover.
In addition, Roustika is an ideal location for nature walks through superb gorges of abundant vegetation. There are some excellent short routes all of which are of unique natural beauty. It is also home to a famous historic monastery and a Byzantine church.
During the summer, many traditional festivals take place in the nearby areas, where you will have the opportunity to experience traditional Cretan music and dancing.
Roustika village has a traditional mini-market and a taverna. In the other nearby villages, you will find a bakery, a butcher, supermarket, pharmacies, and more Greek tavernas.
