Tzitzifes, is a village built on two adjacent hills, which gradually slopes down to the plain, where there is a ravine between the two hills. From the top of these two hills are beautiful views over the entire province of Apokoronas.
In the village there is a kafeneion and a mini market in the old town square. Tzitzifes located in a beautiful green area of Apokoronas province, has been named after the tree “Tzitzifia” (= jujube tree), a tree that is widespread here.
The village is home to approximately 200 residents who are mainly engaged in agriculture and animal management. The main products produced here are olives, wine and several companies that produce cheese. In and around the village there are all kinds of churches built in the Middle Ages. In the village there are also several tavernas where you can taste Cretan specialties.
Tzitzifes is 32 km from Chania. The village Vrises is located about 5.5 km away and the beautiful sandy beaches of Georgioupolis are about 20 minutes away.
The village of Fres is 5 minutes’ drive away and has a large, open square (plateia) offering a range of amenities: tavernas, kafenions and shops, including a baker, butcher, as well as a primary school and a doctor. It is on the bus route to the city of Chania, which can be reached in about half an hour by car.
