The quiet, relatively unspoiled village of Kalyves is located 20 km east of Chania and 40 km west of Rethymno, on the north coast of Crete. The area manages to combine a scenery of woods, hills and mountains with the amazing Greek sea and the original rustic Cretan architecture.
Kalives is not just a tourist destination; it is a real living and working village, set at the entrance of the Souda Bay, with several taverns, cafes, shops, hotels, small sandy beaches and close to the National Road for a quick drive to the town of Chania and the International airport. Several busses a day are going from the centre of the village into the town of Chania, which is 18km west. The village offers all amenities such as a bank, schools, doctors, dentist, pharmacies, restaurants and a lot of coffee shops which function all year round as well as a KEP (Enlish-speaking Community Centre).
